When do you think I should have my nails done in a salon?

For the prom, next thursday.

I never had my nails done, so do you think it is a good idea if i have them done a bit earlier so I could get used to wearing it?

Thanks for your helpWhen do you think I should have my nails done in a salon?
They do take a little getting used to, but i would have them done a few days before the Prom otherwise they wont look as nice for the Prom...Just remember to be carefull with them if you have never had them done before,, especially when going to the loo Ha ha,, you will find that difficult to begin with..lol....Hope you like them, Bye the way be careful when typing too...I have long nails and hit all the other keys sometimes and have to keep re typing words....When do you think I should have my nails done in a salon?
Ahh PROM!! Mine is on 1st July, I didn't realise I still need to book for hair and nails. Not that I'm a nail-y person. Ew nails. Ew girly girl ness. Ew fake tans. My dress is black. Boring huh, I'm thinking of going in dead emo-ish to scare the fake tan, stuffed bra, bleach blond clone people. What about yours? Oooh...

Sorry, crazy moment aside. Maybe you should get them done 2-3 days before the prom? That way you are used to them. I do hope you have fun, and stuff :)
Tue or Wed .. or they`ll look chipped .. I would love to get mine done but having the attention span of a 2 year old I can`t sit there for that amount of time ...it would be nitemarish for me ... have a great time at the prom .. and remember Cinders , I want you home for midnight ..!!
Are you having nail extensions?????

I had them ~ they looked great but I had trouble keeping them ~ I was too rough on them ~if you can take care of them Monday, would be fine and give you time to get used to them ~ but if your like me Wednesday ~ then they will still be looking great :-)

Enjoy your prom ~
I would get them done a day or two before your prom , like the others have said . It does take some getting used to if you haven't had them done before.

I hope you have a lovely time at your prom x
I would say the day of the prom. Or maybe the day before if you can't get them done that day. Hope you have a fabulous time.

Dont' do anything I wouldn't do. ;)
If you get them done too early they won't look as pretty for prom. I'd say no earlier then Tuesday. You don't want the bottoms to grow out or chip them or something before prom!
yay prom

um sure

could get one of those package thins (hair, nails, tan)

think they do them

not sure

hope you have fun

How do you remove blackheads from the nose without going to any salon?

i hv tried many cosmetics/products but havent yet found any that actually works. Does any home remedies work???How do you remove blackheads from the nose without going to any salon?
Try Biore nose strips. Workings for me.How do you remove blackheads from the nose without going to any salon?
LOL THE GUY UNDER ME IS FUNNY.WELL BAK 2 U...+D.Go to wal*mart or a local drug store and try to find stridex face pads..get maximum sollution its about $6...its preety cool...it wont get rid of ur current black heads...but it will prevent them
I have used Biore's warming facial scrub. IT WORKS!!! I use it every morning and after about two weeks I noticed less black head in my T-Zone area! Try it. It may or may not work for you, but it is cheap and worth a shot. You can get it at your local store and it is only about $6 a tube... Good luck!
well I don't know about home remedies but lie down, cover your face with a hot, damp washcloth. Then use a scrub (like a ';salon'; product.) GOOD LUCK! :D
I swear by ProActiv's facial mask!! It's great and fast!
my sister who works in a dermatologist office, says there is a thing at sallys beauty supplies, that sucks out the blackhead. i never used it but she says it works.
u can by these strips that you put on your nose to remove blackheads, you just wet the strip and leave it on for a few mins and peel it off.Available widely, any chemists or some supermarkets.
Try the Biore strips. They work like a charm for me and everyone else i know that uses them.
I would say the biori (sp?) pads work best. You wet them and stick them to your nose. Once they dry you peel them off and the blackheads come out stuck to the pad. If you peel it carefully enough it should work.
Get a washcloth and soak it in hot water. Put it on your face for a while. It opens up your pores. Then use a blackhead removing scrub or a face mask.
face masks or tooth paste then lemon!

I see why you're yahoo answers name is ';confused girl.';

Anchorage Salons?

I am moving to Anchorage soon and need to go to a good hair salon. What salons and stylists are the best at color in that area? Thanks!Anchorage Salons?
My suggestion would be to find a person in that area that has beatiful haircolor. Ask them where they get their hair done. Also try asking your regular hairstylist what your formula is. If your moving they'll understand %26amp; freely give up your formula. I also would find out What brand of color your current stylist is using. Usually if you know the brand you can contact the color company directly to find out where in your new area can you find a salon that carries your color. Good luck Hopefully that helps

Has anyone ever let JCPenny salon cut their hair?

I have really long hair and need to get it shaped up some. Since I don't get it cut often I really don't have anyone regular I know cutting my hair. Just want to see what people's experience with JCPenny salon haircuts were and if you were satisfied.Has anyone ever let JCPenny salon cut their hair?
Yes I have, but lets face it.........I'm a guy. What do I know about hair or hair cuts. When my wife says I'm getting shaggy, I go somewhere and get it cut. When they ask how I want it cut I tell them ';shorter';....so I'm not sure that I'm qualified to answer this one.Has anyone ever let JCPenny salon cut their hair?
I have had my hair cut at JCPenny and was very satisfied. However, I think it depends on the individual stylist no matter where you go. Good luck!
Went there twice... never happy with it ever!!!
I had the best cut there because the girl who cut my hair was great...but she is not there anymore and so I don't go there now. Bring a picture of what you want with you...because what you tell them , frequently is lost in translation.
Once I got my hair cut there %26amp; it was NOT good! But my sister gets her hair cut there alots %26amp; it looks good. It depends on who cuts it. I thought I was getting the same lady that my sister used, but no.
Yes I had the best haircut ever there and I let her do my hair for prom, it turned out fabulous!!! Good hairsylist work at JCpennys too!

MASSAGE ENVY...There are MANY locations too!!!! Great massages. No hair though. Sorry!

Hope this helps!Massage salons in chicago ?
Check some of the schools that teach massage. Quite often they will have the students give massages and you can have a pretty good massage for about $25.00-$40.00.

I have had several massages this way and it is a wonderful way to get a massage and get about 1/3 off the ';regular'; price of a massage.

    They don't do hair however.

For the low cost hair check some of the beauty academies in the area. Keep in mind that it will take longer because work is done by students and all work is checked by instructors.
Of course we can help you! There are all sorts of massage therapy, spas, wellness centers etc. in Chicago. In terms of price the Chicago Neck and Back Institute is a great place to go and they also specialize in specific areas of the body that may be hurting! In terms of a spa that also does hair you can go to La Maison Du Parfum Day Spa which has massage as well!!

    Nail Salons in Chicago?

So Im looking for a really good nail salon in chicago, because all the salon i've been to, either are busy and they dont take their time to do a good job or they just all suck cuz they dont have any people?

so does anyone know where i can go?

i wanna get gel or arcylic nails done..????

and i got my own little design?Nail Salons in Chicago?
there are just too many to choose from to give you a real answer.

but I know what you mean and it's the same everywhere.

I'd say look in the suburbs, I don't know where you'd be close to.

also find one that has opened recently, they are much more likely to be on there best behavior, do the best job, and appreciate your business. in addition tell them your complaints about the other shops, but don't be bitchy, just informative, there likely to hear what your saying and give you exactly what you want.

I live in the suburbs and am on my 5th salon in a years time. it's funny though, every time I find someone REALLY good they leave and I say where did they go? and the answer is ';when they get that good, they go to downtown where the money is better'; so I'm surprised you can't find any that are good. Nail Salons in Chicago?
Nail salons are a dime a dozen anywhere you go in the USA. But, finding one that provides top quality services is more difficult. Here, try these links. Maybe they will help you find what you are looking for? BTW (Insert disclaimer here!) I have no affiliation whatsoever with either of these web sites, or with any of the salons listed on the sites. Thus, I will not, and do not profit in any way from posting these links, nor do I have anything to gain by posting them. I am providing them strictly for informational purposes. Whether you use them, or not is entirely up to you. There is no guarantee that all, or even any of the salons listed are top quality salons. But I think most are at least 'decent' places to go to. If you happen to notice one or more which interest you, maybe you could call them and talk to them about their services, and anything else you wanted to know about them? This way, you may be able to make an informed decision prior to going there for nail services. I feel this is better than just blindly choosing a salon and taking your chances with them. Remember, this will not guarantee the quality of their services - or the lack of it. But personally, I feel a little more comfortable knowing a few basic things about a business of any type prior to going to one. Then again, thats just me...

  • When getting a haircut do actual salons do a better job than those hair cutterys, fantastic sams, ect.?

Yes, absolutely! The cheap hair cutting salons do not really care how you look when you leave. If you are willing to spend the money, you can find a stylist who would base your cut and color on your skin tone, body size, facial shape...it is a true science! When getting a haircut do actual salons do a better job than those hair cutterys, fantastic sams, ect.?
Think about it. They all hire people who went to the same kind of school. That said, if they take more time, you will get a better cut. If the chain is driving them to be fast, that could be a problem. When getting a haircut do actual salons do a better job than those hair cutterys, fantastic sams, ect.?
The chain salons don't care about the individual customer where as the locally owned/operated salons depend directly on your opinion.

The beauticans go to the same schools the only difference is that the beauticans at a chain store will always have customers while the self employed depend on word of mouth.

Local salons do more services and a larger variety so chances are you are getting a service from a more experienced person.
    I think they do!
    Where is a good place (salon) for (men) for a nice haircut, that is not too $$$ and not like ';Rudy's';

If you want an accurate response then you should call a few salons and ask their price to apply your relaxer. Let them know you have your own relaxer, because some salons don't allow customers to bring their own products.

How much money do hairstylists make? if they work in a salon do they get to keep all the money for the cut?

or do they get paid on a salary? How much money do hairstylists make? if they work in a salon do they get to keep all the money for the cut?
We get paid a percentage of what we charge, ranges I've heard are 30%-60% depending on how long they have been working. Rent, utilities, products, and advertising all have to be paid for somehow, so that's where the rest of the money usually goes. A salon couldn't stay open if we got to keep all the money. Would be nice though. Also means we aren't getting paid if we are just sitting. How much money do hairstylists make? if they work in a salon do they get to keep all the money for the cut?

I have dark brown hair with blonde highlights, how do i get ride of them without going to a salon?

i have dark dark brown hair with orange sorta gold blonde highlights but i dont like it. if i go out and buy a box hair dye thats dark brown again will it get rid of them or just make everything worse? please help me!I have dark brown hair with blonde highlights, how do i get ride of them without going to a salon?
stop, go to a colorist, get it done right the first time. its cheaper than redoing it

make sure you see someone that is trained in color, majirel, schwartzkof, goldwell.

stay away from, redken, matrix, aveda.

there tend to be in cheaper salons and not greatly trained. of course there are exceptions to these rules. go to Saks, look at some girls hair that works there, and ask where do you go?I have dark brown hair with blonde highlights, how do i get ride of them without going to a salon?
find a color as close as possible to your natural color the highlights will still come through as the color fades but its better than living with hair you hate- been there good luck
Good luck .Sounds good but be sure to select 1 shades lighter than your natural color as the box colors always come out darker than what is on the box. After 6 weeks . . or so many washes the color will start to fade and you will need to repeat the process until your highlights have grown out or been cut off.
Buy a light brown box color. When you put highlights in, the bleach lifts the color to lighten it. You have to put color back on the blond if you want to get rid of it.

You might also want to go to a colorist to see of they can tone the blond. The can put a toner on that will make it less brassy.
The boxed hair color will probably make things worse. It will not only darken the highlights, but also your base color so it would be best to either grow them out or go to a salon and see what they could do if you really don't like them.
You'll be okay following that plan. I'm a senior and have gray around my temples and sides, so the box dyes tend to give me a lighter shade there, but it looks good, it looks like natural variations. One recommendation - the permanent dyes really bother my scalp, and the wash-in's last quite awhile, don't irritate the scalp. I much prefer a Clairol product called Natural Instincts. When and if you get it watch for a coupon good on future purchases; it will be on the instructions sheet. Good luck!
should work fine and if you decide to go blonde again try picking a ash blonde coloring helps to pull the red out of naturally dark hair kinda learned that the hard way lol

find a color as close as possible to your natural color the highlights will still come through as the color fades but its better than living with hair you hate- been there good luck

Location, Location, Location. As with any business, location is probably the top priority. Secondly you will want to make sure it is easily accessible for your customers. You can have a top of the line salon, but if your clients can't get to you easily or have to fight for a parking place it could be a real downer. Go check out other salons, and see what you do or do not like about them. This should give you a good idea of which way to go.

How much would it cost to get this at an average salon?

Second i want my hair back to my natural light brown color, its dark brown now

How much would it cost? How much would it cost to get this at an average salon?
If you aren't doing anything extravagant, go to cost cutters or hair cuttery or something.

I dyed my hair dark brown and got a conditioning treatment done at hair cuttery, and it was about 60 bucks. Not bad at all and it turned out nicely. I had just bleached my hair and dyed it bright red, so it was horribly dead and harder to cover. Now it's nice again. You don't have to go to special salons to get those things done, since they are simple. How much would it cost to get this at an average salon?
Well a deep conditioning treatment would be between 15 to 28 depending on the salon. The hair would be considered ';color correction'; and if it is shoulder length it would be anywhere from 100- 200 dollars. You might be able to get something done for 80-95 if you go to a less expensive salon.

I don't know if you want to get girl or something..ha ha i'm just yanking your chain :)

    A salon is a place for ladies mainly a nail one to relax look Fabulous and try to impress people like you...just not at that second. if I was at a nail salon I wouldn't want anyone to see my my hair all crazy n my messy nails %26gt;.%26lt;

Or if you are married or have a girl i think it's because they FEEL that the men are just there to pay for it and love it. If your not getting anything they really don't want you.. it's kinda like you are in a pizza store and you don't want a pizza but you sit in the lobby there just going to igore you unless you buy something
Because you don't go to the counter to let them know you need their services.

For example, when I get a haircut, I don't just sit down and expect them to call me. I go to the counter and let them know I need a haircut.
well mainly girls get their nail done. if you wait over 15 minutes ask for a person to get you what you need. once you continue comeing they will notice you.
Next time I go to a nail salon I'll wave at you then come over and give you a hug.

If you want a manicure....just ask! YAY!
You mean the people who work there ignore you?

From now on just say to them!

But they may think your waiting on your girlfriend.

maybe the ppl in there are just too busy....i dont know, next time you go ask someone.....theyll tell you the answer.......
y do u want attention at a salon?
    because your a flamer!
your not the person that does their nails.

they just dump a bucket on your head.

bring goggles! If I were to get my hair bleached at a salon, what would be the process they would take?
Your hair needs to be dirty. Ok not that dirty, but go like 1 day without washing. All they do is mix up the bleach mixture, put it on the hair you want to bleach, then let it set. If they are bleaching your whole head then that's simple. If they are doing highlights or streaks they will either use a cap and pull hair out of it, or separate hairs with foil or just a comb. Afterwards they will either dry and comb or they will first apply toner. Sometimes when you bleach you get an orange-copper color which most people do not like. This can be removed to make it more of an ash color, a golden blond color, platinum blond or even white. Sometimes they will put another color on top of it, it depends on what you want.

They will cover your ears and face with some kind of cream, plastic and/or towels as well as put a robe on you. However, there is always a chance of it seeping through so I would suggest wearing a shirt you don't care much about. They shouldn't get it on your pants but if they are sloppy then it may be worth putting on a pair of pants you don't care about either.

Close to Union Station is about as expensive as you can get with salons in Toronto. Union is pretty much the hub for the business district and to accommodate busy people there are tons of salons in the area but they are all as expensive as you can get. They are all very nice and sanitary though. Just go into the underground network called ';The PATH'; and you will find many.

Can you use a home hair colourant when you have salon coloured hair. I want to revert back from blond.?

I have salon (honey blond) hair and my natural colour is dark blond. I have read things like dye hair red first then brown, but its more of a light brown look I want now dark brown. Can you use a home hair colourant when you have salon coloured hair. I want to revert back from blond.?
YESCan you use a home hair colourant when you have salon coloured hair. I want to revert back from blond.?
When I went from platinum blonde back to brown last year, my hair was really dry and snapping, so I went to the hairdresser who first of all put a bright red toner on which helps to build up the colour and then put a medium brown colour on to finish. Since then I have used home colourant, but didn't want to take the chance 1st time round as my hair was in terrible condition. My hair now looks in great condition, but I think if I did a home job first of all the results may have been embarrassing.

I would definitely ask your hairdresser for advice, or if you're a bit skint, you can get a trainee hairdresser to do it for you which will cost a fraction of the price, but will still use quality products.
shouldnt be a problem do a strand test first or whichever dye you buy have helpline numbers on that you can ring and they will tell you
I coloured by hair from a honey blonde to a dark chocolate brown using a home colourant. However, my hair was highlighted using bleach, so the result could be different if it's a different type of dye thats normally used on your hair. I would suggest doing a strand test in an inconspicuous place in your hair and wait to see how that develops. Good luck!
IF U HAVE HAD BLEACH IN UR HAIR USE A RED FIRST AS ITS A PIGMENT COLOUR THEN GO OVER WIYH THE COLOUR OV OR CHOICE GOOD LUCK
Never ever try to darken blond hair at home! I did and my hair went a misty grey colour. Had to pay a salon a fortune to sort it!
Put a red toner on your hair. Do not put a red permanent dye on. The red toner will cling to any blonde but not in a dark red way. You can then apply a light brown to your hair. As you wash your hair the red toner will fade out and the light brown will look more natural.
yes you can but you must leave a couple of days in between dying your hair. you might not be able to do it one go you might have to ligthen your hair gradually but if you go to a hair salon they can do it as my niece has had it done
    yes you can ,
It all depends on how long ago you colored your hair. You can not keep coloring it because you will cause breakage.
You need to pre pigment your hair again. You will need to get a red colour to put all over your hair.Once that has taken rinse it out, leave your hair wet and apply a light brown on top of this.Light brown is pretty dark, plus you don't want to stray too much from your natural colour. You should maybe buy two packets of the brown colour to make sure every bit of your hair is covered!

The reason you need to put the red in your hair first is because if you put brown straight over the blonde you will get a greeny hue from your hair which will get worse as the brown fades
You have to use a red toner with the light brown color. Sometimes an orange toner works better because the red can make it have a pink undertone. I think you should see a hair color specialist. Good luck.
It is absolutely fine to dye your hair dark again when it has been dyed blond in a salon. It will take the colour well, but be warned that it will fade overtime, maybe even after a few washes. You may have to dye it again after a few weeks. The only way to keep the hair colour dark would be to dye it red to put the pigment back into the hair and then dye it dark. This would make the colour last longer. If you are still unsure about the advise do a strand test first. I work in a salon so i know what i am talking about
Yes of course. Color it what you want. :) Good luck.
no it will change the colour of your hair to two tones which will look awful. get professional advive.
Hi, By adding red you add the pigment into your hair, which holds the brown. You need to add ash brown over the top to get a flat brown - but as a qualified hairdresser I'd recommend going to a salon to get it done, do it wrong and you're hair will be green tinted or even worse bright red!

What is a good salon for african americans in Houson, TX?

I need a stylist for my wedding in August, but I do not live in Houston, so any information would help make my day special. What is a good salon for african americans in Houson, TX?
Why does the salon have to be for African Americans only? I am sure there are many fine salons in Houston that cater to Americans. There is too much racial motivation in the world these days. With all the non English speaking people in the United States should we not drop the racial tensions of Black and White. At least we are all here legally and are proud enough to be Americans that we do not wave a foreign flag. What is a good salon for african americans in Houson, TX?
Depends on what side of town you are on. I work for Christian Impact News (Issue # 1 July 07), and I have lots of contacts in my database... One that comes to mind is Pamela Hall @ Desired Images II 713.839.7321. Tell her that Jack Byars from CIN referred you.
I understand where you are coming from, although I am white, African American hair is different and not everyone who does hair has had much experience with it.What I would suggest is find a local beauty college on whatever side of town you are getting married, when you come to town go there get your hair done (it will be cheap) and then see if the student would be willing to come to you on the day of the wedding.Students tend to take more time, are available to come to you, and need the money. I don't know where you will be in Houston but I have heard Royal Beauty careers on 1960 tend to specialize in African American hair.

How responsible is the owner(s) of an indoor tanning salon that allowed a child under 14 yrs old to tan in NY?

Situation: An employee allows a child under 14 years old to tan, unaware of the FDA regulations that anyone under 14 is not allowed to tan in New York state. However, the mother is with the child and clearly gives permission for the child to tan (she is also tanning).

Hypothetically, if the mother goes to authorities (police, FDA, etc) afterwards and tells them about the tanning salon that allowed her child to tan (whether she knows about the age regulations or not beforehand is unknown), what will happen to the owner(s) of the tanning salon - will they be subject to a fine, jail time, loss of license to operate a tanning salon, etc.? The employee would probably get fired, but the owners would be legally responsible. Does anyone know what kind of legal troubles, if any, that the owners will have to deal with?

Professional answers from any type of law enforcement/authority figures or those who are familiar with these regulations are appreciated, thank you :)How responsible is the owner(s) of an indoor tanning salon that allowed a child under 14 yrs old to tan in NY?
I believe as long as the parent gives permission that it is ok. some children need to go to the tanning salons due to having psoisasis and that is legal.

Running a Salon in Sims 2 Open For Business?

In Sims 2 Open For Business, how would one run a salon? I have the salon chair, and I can offer a makeover, but no one ever goes to sit down to let me give them a makeover unless its free. Help?Running a Salon in Sims 2 Open For Business?
Just like a customer trying to decide whether they want to buy something or not, they have to decide whether they want a makeover or not. If the customer does not have the ';hmmm...how bad do I want this?'; decision meter over her head, then you need to perform a Sales interaction on the potential customer. Click on the customer and look for the ';sales...'; interaction. If you don't have any sales-talent badges yet, then the only sales approach you have is the ';basic sell.'; Don't perform the service for free unless you made him look like the joker; it's the least you can do to fix your mistake then.

Sell them on the idea, and then they'll allow you to whip out the scissors and powder puff.

It's actually a good thing that all your customers aren't brave enough to plop down in the salon chair right away. You need time to finish your current customer as the others crowd around. This is the perfect opportunity to enhance their moods, so give them objects that they can interact with. Put some magazines in the salon -- you know, the ones you have to buy individually from the magazine rack at the grocery store that increases certain interests. Have your stylist actually go somewhere to buy a magazine or two and then place them on a table in the salon. Put a television set on the wall or a pinball machine in the corner. Once your business picks up, you'll wish you had these distractions for them all.

What is the etiquette for changing stylists in the same salon?

    First call to see what days the one you're avoiding isn't working (they assume you are making an appointment with that stylist and need to know), then when you find out when he/she won't be there, then you say'; thank you, let me check my schedule, I'll call you right back';. Then call back in a half hour and say'; I only have so and so day available (that day will just happen to be the day your old stylist isn't there), so can I make an appointment with the other so and so?';

There you have it. New appointment, new stylist... no hurt feelings and no guilt. (and you haven't confided in the new stylist about your dilemma, in case you want to switch from the new one later)

    Good luck

Still cannot bring yourself...call and check to see if they are booked..hopefully they are and just get to the other stylist. U will have to talk to original hair stylist though because salon is the #1 place for gossip . If they are professionals they will understand...a little crush but they will eventually get over it.What is the etiquette for changing stylists in the same salon?
Its your money and your hair. Not everyone does hair the same way. You have to find someone that does YOUR hair the way you want!! Dont cause a scene, but its a good idea to inform the old stylist of the change. If they are professional they should understand and wish you the best!!!!

    Good Luck
I would talk to the stylist u want to do it first and see how they think it is best to handle it, if my clients switch, I have no prob, Im like hey its ur hair! but when someone elses clients switches to me, I have found a very different reaction, if I know the co worker will get pissed then we just schedule a time that the other stylist wont be there, sneaky maybe but better than hurt feelings, which there shouldnt be cuz we are supposed to be professionals, but when u get that many women working together its always drama! I think its good to have another stylist u can trust in case ur main one is out sick or had surgery, etc.

Difference between hair salon and barber shop?

Could someone please let me know what is the difference between a hair salon and a barber shop? Where does teen usually go.... to a barber shop or hair salon?Difference between hair salon and barber shop?
If you are male then by all means go to the barber shop. There are very few people who are well trained in barbering and I would consider it a treat. Hair salons are open to any clientele but are most frequented by women.Difference between hair salon and barber shop?
Barber shops usually just cut and wash and send you on the way. Salons do other things like color, perm, straightener, style, nails and sometimes massages. A lot of barbers just do a basic mens cuts. Salons usually do the more contemporary styles.
Barber shops are more for gentlemen or men. Salons are more for women and offer many services. Teens will usually go to a salon.

Anyone can go to a barber shop though. In my opinion if your a girl a salon offers better care.
Price is the only difference. A barber shop is usually less expensive. Also, barber shops rarely, if ever, do women's hair.
A hair salon is more up to date I think and geared more towards women i think, and they go more in depth. Barber shops are more for men. So depending on what you are looking for I guess
a barber cuts your hair with clippers,a hair dresser trims your pubic hair with her teeth

My nails have cuts around them and a little swollen is it my fault or the salon?

ive been getting my nails done for several months now and had no problem but i just moved and went to a different salon and a couple of my nails started bleeding and there are cuts next to a few of them...she said it was hangnails so is it the salonist should i go to a different salon or was i just not taking good enough care of my nails? My nails have cuts around them and a little swollen is it my fault or the salon?
Did you have hang nails? It sounds like the tech was a little rough if youve not had this problem before. If you can, stick to the salon you know and trust but if that is too far away then you are going to have to shop around, ask around, look at peoples hands and fingers, hijack them (nicely lol)as they come out of salons asking for their opinions and a peek at the finished job.

Choose your salon carefully, you want one you can trust AND run from any salon that goes to use an electric file (a drill like device) on your own natural nail. (theyre not properly trained if they do that)My nails have cuts around them and a little swollen is it my fault or the salon?
The common answer is that they're due to insufficient skin moisturisation.

It's true that moisituriser will help to prevent them, and if it has vitamin E will help healing, but lack of moisturiser is not the root cause.

Many nail technicians are also poorly trained and push the cuticles back too far. Cuticles are to some extent a sacrificial item and take the damage which would otherwise occur to the skin above the nail bed. They also serve an important purpose in sealing the root of the nail against bacteria, fungi and other pathogens. Removing them completely is asking for trouble. Nail salons often fail to disinfect their tools between customers which compounds the problem.

You need to look at your diet, it's the single most important cause of this common ailment for most people: foods rich in calcium, iron, vitamin B and potassium are essential and seafood, dairy products, green leafy vegetables, and soy are rich in these nutrients.

Also make sure that you're not drying the oils out of your skin artificially; if you hand-wash your dishes, or use alcohol rub on your hands then you must replace the oils with moisturiser. You may also find that a change to the soap you use to wash your hands with will also help. Occupational causes are a factor: deep-sea fishermen recognised this long before anyone commonly used hand creams and used their own concoctions. Depending on your occupation you may need to consider some kind of barrier protection which may be as simple as wearing gloves.
Nails don't bleed. The skin around them bleeds. So there is no way your ';nails started bleeding';.

It was not your fault. I would look for a new salon.

You are a prime candidate for a nail fungus. Always make sure the salon you go to does not use emery boards and other equipment on more than one client. Before replacing or sterilizing.

That is how nail fungus is aquired. A small cut/scratch under the nail and using the same emery board, or not sterilizing the nail scissors/clippers.
ok if they are using a drill STOP going there as they are probably drilling too far into your nail bed. Find a salon that files nails by hand. And by the way , hang nsils wouldn't cause your nails to bleed unless if YOU picked them off !!! Dont waste your money on a worthless job girl!
I think that it's the salon's fault. cuz you've been going to the salon to fix urr nails, and then you try a new salon, and suddenly it was like that......wait....could it be an infection? You should go and wash it a bit.
They are hangnails, and everyone gets them.

Just make sure to lotion your cuticles everyday so they don't get worse. The cuts should eventually go away.

But if you weren't satisfied then I'd go to a different salon.
    the salon

thats not normal they messed up you should go the doctor and make sure you don't have a nasty infection... it can happen sometimes if the salon and their tools are not properly cleaned
No it's NOT normal %26amp; NOT your fault! It's the Salons. Never go there again! Same thing ahppened to my daughter %26amp; I went in %26amp; cussed them out...needless to say, my daughter got her money back %26amp; never went back again.
It depends- did you feel the person who was doing your nails cut them, or did she rip of a hangnail or something? If either of those things happened, then it's probably her fault.
    their fault..

if she cut your cuticle, she might cut you..

just go to a different salon
It's not hang nails. She was too rough. This is common when they use the electric file. Don't go anymore!
your fault because they are your finger nails not the salons dont blame your problems on others!

How can our salon find more stylists without putting an ad on a career website or the paper?

you go shopping and ask every woman with matching shoes and handbag where she gets her hair done and then you ask who the tech is when you get the same techs name three times you go over there and ask her out for a drink after work and hire her.

Have the news paper run a contest to name the best hairdressers in your city and then go find them. Go to all the outlying salons and ask the receptionist who the best technician is and take a card and write their names on it and call and ask them out for an interview. How can our salon find more stylists without putting an ad on a career website or the paper?
It all depends on what type of salon are you?

Are you a Great Clips, or are you a high end salon from Tabitha's Salon Makeover?

If you're Great clips then put an ad on Craigslist. If you're looking for high end stylists, then you need to generate a ton of value in your salon.

What's the advantage of working with you? Do they get free booth rent? Do you charge a smaller percentage? Do you work with celebrities? Do you have higher clientele? Why should that successful stylist leave where they are, leave the local clients they have, and bring their book of business to you?

If you can answer the questions above, then you just wrote your own ad.

Good luck! How can our salon find more stylists without putting an ad on a career website or the paper?
Hold a career fair or a ';second grand opening'; between like 6:00-8:00 pm and serve appetizers and wine. Send out a press release to all local papers and magazines so that they'll publish it. Put it on Craigs List too just to get the word out. Send flyers/press releases to the local cosmetology and community colleges so that everyone hears about it! Good luck!

My friend, 16, wants to go to a ';tanning salon';. Will that have any bad side affects on her?

I am trying to convince her not to do it cause i saw it once on TV how hings might go wrong in it and the bad rays, but i just want to have solid proof about this machine and wither it might hurt her in any bad way in a short or long term.My friend, 16, wants to go to a ';tanning salon';. Will that have any bad side affects on her?
The biggest and the most deadly effect of a tanning bed is skin cancer. Those who have the misconception of getting skin cancer from suntanning only should make themselves aware of this fact. The skin cancer may also occur because of using tanning beds. Your indoor sunless tanning is as harmful as suntanning. Thus, before lying on the tanning bed of your nearby tanning salon to attain the lovely designer skin, think once again.

The harmful UV or ultraviolet rays emitted by the tanning lamps and bulbs installed in tanning beds are behind the development of perilous Melanoma or Nonmelonoma skin cancers. Your over exposure to the lights of these tanning lamps and tanning bulb lights reduces your tendency to produce DNA. Another side effect of using tanning bed is premature aging of the skin. You damage your skin with every tanning session. Every tanning session sucks out the youth from your skin and you think you are looking beautiful. What an irony? My friend, 16, wants to go to a ';tanning salon';. Will that have any bad side affects on her?
the machine itself is fine. those tanning beds have to get inspected and be in 100% proper working order for public to use. the only damage is can cause, is harmful rays to your skin... just like the sun rays. you can get immature sunspots from sun and tanning beds. the machine itself is fine, but the rays are like the sunrays.. it can damage skin cells especially if you get burnt or do it all the time.
I found the below website address, I think it should be visited. A good friend of mine started laying in the tanning bed at 17 and unfortunate enough she has developed skin cancer in three different spots. As great as it is to be tan and beautiful, it's not worth it to develop skin cancer.
She should be fine as long as she doesnt get in the habit of doing it all the time. You are going to hear a lot of Pros and Cons about everything. You will probably like looking at her after her skin starts looking nice.

Has anyone ever gone to a Planet Beach tanning salon?

I was thinking of going over to one and their website is crap. I was just wondering what else it has other than tanning. I know tanning is bad for me so please no lectures. They have other services and that is what I was curious about. I cannot find any other information on the other services they offer.Has anyone ever gone to a Planet Beach tanning salon?
I go to a Planet Beach in Mississippi, and I love it! The people are nice and helpful. The beds are great! They have a lot of different beds you can choose from.Has anyone ever gone to a Planet Beach tanning salon?
    No, not at all.

I am a Skin Specialist and I am very aware of harmful effects of UV tanning. It can cause wrinkles, freckles, moles, and even cancer. It's not worth it.

    Have a card scheme.

Extra jam dodger with their coffee!!
how about u invite your loyal customers into the salon for a champagne reception kind of thing (doesnt have to be real champagne) free glasses of champagne and canapes let the clients have a look round at some ''new'' treatments available and let them have free samples

    goodluck :)
what about 9 perms/colours etc then 10th free?

or what about a cup of coffee and biscuit for them!
Free Massage. Contact a local massage school or legitimate massage place and maybe you can work out a deal. School provides massage free (for advertizing) or you can trade for haircuts.

Other things, facials, manicures, pedicures, lawn care, oil change. Since you can trade your down time to others for there services, the possibilities are endless.
What product do you offer that is the worst selling? Offer this either free or at a largely discounted price.
you could offer with the card (ontop of the discount or not up to you)

2 for one style deals or

after x number of cuts a free beauty treatment if you do them, just basic stuff, maybe a facial or a manicure depending on what you cover.

I'd go for a points system like boots do. Maybe give them a loyalty card (like you get in cafe nero) and each time they come stamp the card. Once they have reached a certain amount, give them a free treatment - say a manicure, or possibly give them the option to save their points and have a free full body massage once they reach something like 50 points!?
Perhaps a permanent discount for a selected number of loyal regulars; but be careful you don't begin discounting to the point where you begin making a loss
    free treatments
a free treatment of what ever it is they come in for on a regular basis say every 20 sessions
Why not offer them a points card , on so many points they can take an upgrade to a service free

I'm not in your trade but , if they pay for a wash they receive a wash and blow dry , that sort of thing , you know what I mean
You can use a third party reward transaction processor. Basically you would issue a rewards card to your customers鈥?and they would build points every time they frequent your establishment. After accumulating enough points they can redeem for products and services.

I used to work for a company called GiveX, www.givex.com who does gift card and loyalty programs.

How should i dress for an interview at a salon?

i have an interview tomorrow at a salon and i can figure out what to wear. maybe a dress or something? some pictures would help. How should i dress for an interview at a salon?
get a manicure, were classy and sophisticated clothing, but make sure you have your own style, not just copied because hair people are often creative. do your hair perfect, just dont put too much hairspray in because then youll smelll. Makeup is great but keep it simple and pretty.

How should i dress for an interview at a salon?
Try to match the attitude of the place you are interviewing. If it is a really polished high class establishment dress that way. Dark pressed slacks, button up shirt (pin striped or colored, not white or you look like a waitress), nice cardigan. If it is a really hip place dress like that, if it a really funky place dress like that. Try to dress a little nicer than the employees that are working there, if they all have on tattered jeans and band tees, go for nice denim slacks and a kind of funky top, but not a tee. With salons there are a lot of different ways they can go depending on the environment the owner/manager is trying to create for the clients.

Good luck on your interview! Be confident and try not to say ';um'; a lot, I always do that, lol.

Close to Union Station is about as expensive as you can get with salons in Toronto. Union is pretty much the hub for the business district and to accommodate busy people there are tons of salons in the area but they are all as expensive as you can get. They are all very nice and sanitary though. Just go into the underground network called ';The PATH'; and you will find many.

you dont have to wait in fact they wash it at the salonHow long do I have to wait to wash my hair after getting it dyed in a hair Salon?
omg why does everyone think you can't wash your hair after!!!

i dyed my hair black for 3 YEARS and i did it every month or so. i always washed it after every wash to get it out properly. it doesn't take it out the hair, why do you think you have to leave it in so long!
You can wash it that very night!

Since you're going Organic I thought I'd go with a twist here... Have you thought about plants or flowers?

Here are a few ';exotic'; flowers that you may consider:

Goldenrod, Amaryllis, Hosta, Bell Flower (not so exotic), Joe Pye and Peony...

For the record, yes, I would go into a Salon with any of these names... :)
try 'Berde' which is green in tagalog, which you could translate to money....IMHO
I know of a hair salon called ';Follicles';. I'm waiting for them to open a nail salon next door called ';Cuticles';. Maybe you should take that name before they do.

Is it necessary to TIP the owner of a salon?

when they cut your hair and you pay them... they get all of the money and don't have to split with anyone, therefore is it necessary to TIP them?Is it necessary to TIP the owner of a salon?
Acid, anyone? Is it necessary to TIP the owner of a salon?
    That's not quite true.

The owner works just as hard when he or she does your hair, and is usually more and better experienced.

Tips should always be considered for personal services.

They have bills to pay for the rent, maintenance of the salon/store.

Do what you think is right.

Maybe you and the people who think it's OK not to tip the owner and in some cases-the stylist who does your hair can get together and cut one another's hair.
I always tip the stylist who cuts my hair if they do a good job. If you're not happy with the cut, then obviously don't tip, but wouldn't you want to tip them if they made your hair look great?
no way only tip at resturants
    No!

DO YOU LIKE HAVING YOUR HAIR WASHED AT THE SALON?

When was the last time you were shampooed at a salon?

What do they say to indicate that they will be washing your hair?DO YOU LIKE HAVING YOUR HAIR WASHED AT THE SALON?
i have got my hair done for like the first day of school.

    like a month ago

shampoo, condition, rinse, ya know, the besics.

i find it quite soothng.DO YOU LIKE HAVING YOUR HAIR WASHED AT THE SALON?
yes i luv it cuz they use all the nice salon products.

i got it done like a year ago cuz the last time i got my hair cut they just sprayed some water on it.

and they just said, 'ok come over here we will need to wash your hair for the (cut/style)'
no, and when i get a haircut they normally wash it and stuff before, but i always ask to get a ';dry cut'; because my hair is naturally super curly and thick, but i always wear it straight so whenever they cut it wet, it comes out really bad. And it's like $20 cheaper :)
ehh not really cause it hurts my neckk

an they do i when i get a haircutt
I do get my hair washed and styled for special occasions, last time was 1 month ago. I ask them, they don't just say it.
Im an 18 year old guy and I had my hair washed for the 1st time when I went to get a haircut recently. It had never happened to me before. The lady was trying to start up a conversation while she was doing it but I was just in shock. She said come over here to where the sin k was and i was like wtf, it was really awkward for me.
Actually, they washed my hair last week.

It almost puts me to sleep. I could fall asleep now thinking about it.

    MMM.

It's so good, I could live on getting my hair washed.
i love it it's like a scalp massage.

last time about 3 months ago

    she usually says ';i'll be washing your hair';
Usually when I get my hair cut
you ask them to wash your hair and i love it cuz it feels good and i always love the smell of salon shampoo.
lol this is quite intresting i like it but they rub soo hard ouch! anyways i got me hair washed there last about a year ago

    pla answer mine http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhOCXqSAjQCYCRXR7f4jN2jsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090817221542AAr5yUr
    yes i do get my hair done now and then, it's relaxing. it has been a while, a few years. they usually feel it. depending on how you have it done, how thick your hair is, what they are doing with it they will say something like ';would you follow me to the sink, we'll need to rinse your hair, when was the last time you washed? would like to have it washed?';
most places will wash your hair before they cut it, unless you tell them not to.

i usually do my own hair, but i've gotten it done at a salon for homecoming and prom.

the last time i got my hair shampooed at a salon was about two months ago, when i last got my hair cut.

they just lead you over to the sink.... it's standard procedure.
    Yes i love it.

The last time was months ago.

They ask me if i want it shampoo on my hair.
I like my hair washed yes.

    Months ago.

    I ask sometimes.
It's ok. I just really hate being under the dryer lol. And the last time was like last month.
Yes! They way they massage your hair when u have shampoo no feels good!
Yes.. it feels pretty relaxing. Like a mini scalp massage. I usually get it washed when I go in for a cut. Last time I went was last month when I went for my trim.. why not do the whole 9 yards and get it washed too? When I go and they ask what I'm there for I just tell them a wash and cut. They usually don't do it unless you ask them to.
    YES! (:

    haha

Uhmmm Tomorrow I'm Getting My Haircut...?
U know what? I hate it.

    The whole process bothers me.

I would much rather do it at home. :)
The last time I was shampooed at a salon was when I was about 7 or 6 years old and trust me that was a very long time ago.

I do my hair myself; shampoo, condition and style(at times); whether for special occasions or for any other day.
